Experienced administrator Essar Gabriel has been named the new general secretary of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) replacing the retiring Pierre Weiss, the governing body said on Tuesday.
Athletics is set to reintroduce four-year doping bans even though the move risks alienating the sport from the world anti-doping authority (WADA), officials said on Wednesday on the eve of the world championships.
The Group of Elders include world leaders like -- Desmond Tutu, former UN Secretary Kofi Annan, Former US President Jimmy Carter, Li Zhaoxing, Mary Robinson, Bangladeshi economist Muhammad Yunus, Graca Machel, Gro Harlem Brundtland et al.
